Habitus people profiles

Client: Indesign Media
Project: Feature stories

Folio director Andrea Stevens has been a contributing editor to Habitus magazine in Australia since 2007. She’s profiles architects, product designers, jewellers and other creatives.

Writing about someone's career, projects, philosophy and vision is an engaging process where the interview is absolutely critical in gaining new insights. The right questioning can illicit new thinking and reflection from the interviewee, while the writing process leads to new perspectives and a deeper understanding (and record) of the person and their creative output.

Excerpt:

Small. Moveable. Affordable.

Affordability hurdles led to lateral thinking for this architect’s own home in the Tasman region of Aotearoa New Zealand. Sited on leasehold land, the small, modular house for two is relocatable and extendable.

For New Zealand architect William Samuels and his Australian partner Hannah D'Arcy, the desire to own their first home led to disconnecting the house value from the land value. They have designed and built a modular, relocatable home on leased land. Sized to meet their needs today, the structure can be adapted, extended and relocated as their circumstances change.
